Some Kitchen Tips-I
- Potato: To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.
- Egg:To prevent egg shells from cracking, add a pinch of salt to the water before hard-boiling.
- Lemon:To get the most juice out of fresh lemons, bring them to room temperature & roll them under your palm against the kitchen counter before squeezing.
- Burnt Skillet:To easily remove burnt-on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stovetop-skillet will be much easier to clean.
- Cake:When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead-no white mess on the outside of the cake.
- Excess Salt:To remove excess salt in the dish you are preparing, add a few pieces of raw potato!
- Pie:Brush beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful glossy finish.
- Ginger:To reuse cooking oil without tasting whatever was cooked in the oil previously, cook a 1/4″ piece of ginger in the oil. It will remove any remaining flavors and odors.
- Wooden Drawer: To help old wooden drawers (without runners) open and close smoothly, rub a candle on the tracks.
- These tips are still just old-wives tales. This is fun to read. There are a few things in this list that DO work to some extent, again some may not work to many cases. So, viewers discretion is required.
