Beef-Bone Curry with Mong Beans(Paya-Mong Dal Curry)

This is a recipe might not liked by all.I have got  some left over beef bone from shoulder and leg. There is not meat on it.My mom used to cook those 3 to 4 times for 1 to 2 days. Eventually the bone and the leg gets soft and we suck all the juices  out of those bone that are full of calcium and minerals. But I have no time to cook for 3 to 4 times for 1 to 2 days. I have used a short cut that is using a pressure cooker.I  have used pressure cooker to make the bone soft. Also added some mong beans makes the curry very delicious.

Prep Time:20 Minutes
Cook time: 55 Minutes

  Ingredients:

2 pound beef bone with or without meat
1 & 1/2 cup Mong beans
2 cup chopped onion or 2 large onion chopped
1 tbsp freshly ground garlic paste
1 tbsp freshly ground ginger paste
1 tbsp cumin powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tbsp turmeric powder
1 tsp chili powder
1 small cinnamon stick
3 bay leaf
1 tsp garam masala powder
2 tbsp salt or more
1/2  tomato chopped
2 tbsp plain yogurt
8 cups of water
1/2 cup  oil
3 to 4 green chili
1/2 cup chopped cilantro
Few drops of lemon juices

Optional:
  • 1 cup oval shaped white radishes--when I found that, I have added more salt, Quickly I added some white radishes and the result is a tasty, yummy curry.
  • 3 dated chopped
  • 1 dry prune--The curry looks a little bit darker since I have used dates and prune which added a sweet taste in the curry. If you want, you can omit these.
Directions:
  •  Saute  dry mong dal in a saucepan over medium heat.Constantly stirring for 7 to 10 minutes until the beans get little golden brown.
  • If you want, you can skip the above part.
  • Transfer the beans into a cold water, wash it for 2 to 3 times and leave it for 30 to 40 minutes with 5 cups of water. The beans will be doubler in amount.
Next:
  • In a pressure cooker ,saute onion, bay leaf and cinnamon in oil  until onion gets  little bit golden brown.
  • Then add all the spices and 2 to 3 tbsp water.Cook it for 5 to 7 minutes on low heat.
  • Now add beef bones and  mix properly with the spices.
  • Next add 4 cups of water, close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook it for 20-25 minutes over medium heat.
  • Turn off the heat, wait 10 minutes to get rid of all the air inside the pressure cooker.
  • Now, check the bone is cooked properly. If any of the spices burnt on bottom then transfer the whole curry into a new saucepan.
  • Next ,add mong beans and add 5 cups of water, mix properly.
  • Cook everything for20 to 25 minutes until the beans get tender and cooked.
  • At this point you can add some white radishes too. It takes 3 to 5 minutes to cook radishes
  • Then add 2 green chili , few chopped cilantro, few drops of lemon juice and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Beef bone  curry is ready  to serve with rice or  pita bread.
Enjoy and have fun .
