Ingredients:
1 small size whole chicken cut in to 16-24 pieces
1 & 1/2 cups Chana Dal (washed 2 to 3 times,soaked in 6 cups of water becomes 3 cups after 1 hour)
2 cups chopped onion
1 tbsp garlic paste
1 tbsp ginger paste
1 tbsp cumin powder
1 tbsp coriander powder
1 tbsp yogurt
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp garam masala powder
4 bay leaf
1 whole cinnamon stick break in to pieces
4 whole black cardamom'
1 & 1/2 tbsp salt
1 & 1/2 tbsp salt
1 tomato cut into 4 long pieces
7 cups water
1 cup oil
3 to 4 green chili
1/2 cup chopped cilantro and 1 tbsp lemon juice for garnishing
Always cook in a low heat.
Stir occasionally so that the curry does not get burnt.

Step 1:
In a hot saucepan saute onion,bay leaf,cardamom,cinnamon stick in oil until onion gets little bit golden brown then add all the spices,salt and 1/2 cup water.Cook it for 5 minutes.
Now add chicken and mix properly with the spices ,cook it for 10-15 minutes covering the lid.

Step 2:
Now add chana dal,tomatoes and 7 cups water.Cook for 40 to 50 minutes until the chana dal gets soft and tender.
Stir occasionally otherwise the chana beans will get burnt on bottom.
Then add 3 to 4 green chili and few chopped cilantro and simmer for 2 minutes.
Chicken Chana-beans is ready to serve with bread or rice.
