My Diet for Hypothyroidism

A diet for hypothyroidism should include whole foods rich in iodine, niacin, riboflavin, zinc, as well as vitamins B6, C, and E. These nutrients naturally support proper thyroid functions as well as overall
good health and vitality.

The diet that I am describing  is followed by me based on what I feel and how I feel. The diet is all about re-gaining my energy level.There is no cure for hypothyroidism but at least you can prevent it and boost  your energy level to some extent. You should  or try to include or intake the following foods in your everyday diet and after few days, you will see the differences.

In your breakfast you must include :
1 or 2 organic,cage-free small eggs fried or poached  in coconut oil or olive oil
1 large organic Banana or 2 small organic Banana or Banana Smoothie with milk or yogurt
2 cups of  cow's milk or 1 ounce of any type of cheese or 1 cup yogurt- all these foods are rich in iodine,iron,selenium and vitamins.
You can also go for cheese sandwich or thin-crest cheese pizza too for once in a while.

Afternoon Snacks, you must include any or mix of those fruits:
You can make fruit salad by mixing different fruits or you can have fruit juice or smoothie. Remember one thing, try to have everything home-made and fresh. If you go to a cafe and ask for smoothie that is made of food color and food essence ,then it won't be work like as expected.
One Apple
Brazil nuts
Olive or Dates
Tangerines- These foods are rich in vitamin B6,polyphenols and vitamin C that  boost thyroid gland functions and act as anti-fungal.
Fish & Meat:
In your  everyday diet for lunch and dinner,try to include fish. Shrimp,tuna,salmon,halibut,cod- all these are sea-fish rich in iodine but they also contain lead which is not good for for health if consuming everyday. So, try to intake those once or twice a week. At the same  time,  try to  have river-fish in your everyday diet like small,tiny whitebait fish,telapiea etc. Those are good for health. You can also include beef,mutton or chicken or turkey. No MSG.Avoid MSG.
Coconut Oil, Milk or Creme:
Coconut is very helpful for thyroid gland. No matter what everyday I try to take 1 to 2 tbsp coconut oil in my diet. Coconut cookie,coconut cake or anything with coconut   is also very good.
Legumes & Beans: 
Try to include any kinds of legumes or beans like masoor,urad,,kidney or lima beans or mung or split peas in your daily diet.

If you are a vegetarian then you should include as much legumes and  as many fruits as possible.Seaweed Kelp,Celtic sea salt, seaweed (sushi, nori rolls) are good for vegetarian people.

Regarding veggies try to include  any of the following in your everyday diet:
Bok choy
Potato or potato soup with cheese
Sweet potatoes or celery 
Tomato sandwich or curry or soup,No Canned or packaged soup.
Bottle Gourd
Taro roots
Vegetable soup
Crimini mushrooms 
Garlic and Onion- these foods are rich in selenium,vitamin B6 and minerals good for hypothyroid.

Try to consume brown rice or wild rice or parboiled rice or unrefined whole grains instead of white rice.

While not a food, its important to get a daily dose of safe sun. Light stimulates the pineal gland, which in turn positively affects the thyroid as well as all the other endocrine glands.

Foods Especially Excluded or Limited for Hypothyroid:
I prefer not to intake those for some moments.
  • Broccoli, spinach, rutabaga, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, turnips, kale, mustard greens
  • Soy
  • Millet
  • Radishes
  • White flours
  • Low wheat
