Biryani Flavored Chana-Mong Dal Curry

Cook time: 45 Minutes

Ingredients:
1 cup chana beans or dal
1/2 cup mong  beans or dal
1 cup bite size cut potatoes
1 cup chopped onion
1 tsp freshly ground garlic paste
1 tsp freshly ground ginger paste
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 large cinnamon stick
 3 bay leaf
4 or 5 whole cardamom 
2 black whole cardamom (optional)
1 tsp biryani masala powder(any brand)
1/2 tsp garam masala powder
1 tbsp salt or more
1 cup chopped tomatoes
 7 cups of water or more if  necessary
1 cup  oil
3 to 4 green chili
1/2 cup chopped cilantro
Few drops of lemon juices
  Directions :
  •  Soak the chana daal  and mong dal separately in 4 cups of  water for 2 hours then wash and drain.
  • In a hot saucepan ,saute onion,cardamom,cinnamon stick and bay leaf  in oil  until onion gets  little bit golden brown.
  • Then add all the spices and 2 to 3 tbsp water.Cook it for 5 to 7 minutes on low heat.
  • Now add chana dal and   mix properly with the spices.
  • Add 5 cups of  water and cook it for 20 minutes on medium heat so that the chana dal can be half-cooked. Stir occasionally so that it does not get burned on the bottom.
  • Next add mong dal,potatoes,tomatoes and mix properly with everything. Add water if necessary  and cook again for 20 to 25 minutes until everything gets tender and thoroughly cooked.
  • Then add 4 green chili , few chopped cilantro,few drops of lemon juice and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Biryani flavored Chana-Mong dal curry is ready   is ready  to serve with white rice or any kind of biryani or pita bread.
  • The whole atmosphere will be filled with aroma.
